Who we are

Midpoint News operates https://midpointnews.com (“the website,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how information is handled when you visit the website, use its comment features, or communicate with us.

Website operator: Midpoint News
Privacy contact: Contact the Midpoint News domain registrant through Hostinger

Information handled when you visit

Our website and hosting infrastructure may process your IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, referring addresses, search requests, access times, and related technical records. This information is used to deliver pages, maintain performance, investigate errors, and protect the website against abuse.

If you communicate with us, we receive the contact details, message, and other information you choose to provide. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your inquiry.

Information collected independently by an embedded service, such as Disqus, is described below.

How we use information

We use information to operate and maintain the website, respond to inquiries and privacy requests, manage comments, investigate spam or security issues, and meet applicable legal obligations. We may also use communications to evaluate news tips or requests for corrections.

Submitting a tip does not establish a confidential source arrangement. If confidentiality is important, agree on an appropriate communication method with us before providing identifying or sensitive details.

Comments and Disqus

We use Disqus for comments and related features. Your public comments, display name, and public profile information may be visible to other readers and accessible outside this website. Do not post private information that you do not want made public.

When Disqus loads, it may receive technical information and information about your activity, including when you do not submit a comment. Disqus uses cookies and similar technologies and may process information for advertising or marketing depending on applicable settings and choices. An ad-free display does not by itself establish that all tracking is disabled.

We can access information made available through Disqus for managing discussions and addressing abuse. Disqus handles its own accounts and any third-party sign-in you choose. We do not receive your Google, Facebook, or other sign-in provider’s password.

Hosting and website services

The website uses WordPress software and is hosted by Hostinger. Hosting and website services process information needed to deliver content, maintain infrastructure, and support security and administration.

The website also loads a Hostinger Reach script. Loading this script establishes a connection to Hostinger’s service and can disclose technical request information, such as your IP address and browser information. If you submit information through a Reach-powered feature, that information is processed through that service.

For information about Hostinger’s practices, see its Privacy Policy.

Authorized website administrators also use tools for maintenance and content management. Access to website information through these tools is limited by the permissions granted to them.

Google Analytics and Search Console

We use Google Analytics 4, connected through Site Kit by Google, to understand how readers use the website. Analytics can collect information about pages viewed, interactions, referring websites, browser and device characteristics, and approximate location. It uses cookies and similar identifiers, and information about your use of the website is transmitted to Google. We use the resulting reports to evaluate readership and improve our content and website.

Google Analytics 4 uses IP addresses at collection to derive approximate location and then discards them before logging the data. This does not mean that all Analytics information is anonymous or that other services do not process IP addresses. Retention and processing depend on our Analytics settings and Google’s practices.

We also use Google Search Console to review the website’s visibility and performance in Google Search. Search Console provides reports from Google and does not itself add a visitor-tracking script to this website.

For information about Google’s processing, see the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

You can manage cookies through your browser and use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on in supported browsers to prevent Google Analytics JavaScript from sharing information about visits with Google Analytics. The add-on does not disable other services or all cookies. This policy describes our use of Analytics; it does not itself provide a consent control or stop tracking.

Cookies and similar technologies

WordPress and third-party services can use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for functions such as authentication, remembering settings, and providing embedded features. Third-party services may also use these technologies for measurement, advertising, or personalization as described in their policies.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies or scripts can affect comments and other features. Browser settings alone may not stop every form of collection, including technical information sent when your browser connects to a service.

Use the privacy controls offered by Disqus for its data processing. You can also contact us about processing under our control. This policy is a disclosure and does not itself enable or disable tracking.

Sharing and third-party policies

Information may be processed by hosting and other service providers needed to operate the website. Public comments are disclosed publicly. We may disclose information when legally required or when reasonably necessary to address security incidents, unlawful activity, or legal claims.

Embedded services may collect information directly and process it under their own privacy policies, including for purposes different from ours. The policies linked above explain those providers’ practices and available choices.

Those policies supplement this policy; they do not replace our responsibilities for information we process or for configuring services on our website. Links to other websites do not mean that Midpoint News controls their data practices.

Retention and security

Retention depends on the information and purpose. Communications may be retained while an inquiry, editorial issue, or dispute remains relevant. Technical records follow the retention settings of the services that maintain them. Comments may remain public until removed, and copies may persist in backups, search results, or other users’ records.

We seek to limit access to people and services that need it for website operations. No internet transmission or storage method is completely secure.

Your choices and requests

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Some laws also provide rights concerning targeted advertising, sale or sharing of data, or withdrawal of consent.

For requests about information under our control, use the Hostinger domain registrant contact form for midpointnews.com. State that your message concerns a Midpoint News privacy request. Information you enter in that form is processed by Hostinger under its privacy policy. We may need to verify your identity before acting. Applicable exceptions may permit retention, including for legal obligations or protected journalistic activity.

For Disqus account information and its independent processing, use Disqus’s privacy controls or contact Disqus. We will address information under our control separately. Removing a comment from this website may not remove copies held elsewhere.

Children

Midpoint News is a general-audience news website and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action. Third-party services have their own age restrictions and policies.

International processing

Our service providers may process or store information in countries different from yours. Their policies and applicable contractual arrangements describe their international processing practices.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the website or its services change. The updated date will appear at the top. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent. Continued browsing does not substitute for consent where consent is required.
